MySpace drops 10 million users in one month

Things appears to be going from bad to worse at MySpace currently.

The ailing social platform – which was once king before Facebook came along – recently tried to stay relevant by rebranding itself as a content-focused “social entertainment” site, rather than a social network.

In January, the outfit slashed its workforce by half, and the latest news on the well-being of MySpace aren’t any more encouraging.

T3 reports that analyst ComScore has recorded statistics for the site which show that its membership dropped by 10 million from January to February of this year.

The total membership is now just over 60 million, compared to Facebook’s half a billion plus, and Twitter’s estimated 200 million accounts. Indeed, Facebook’s UK membership now amounts to half of MySpace’s total figure, a measure of just how much things have changed over the last few years.

Rupert Murdoch paid over half a billion dollars for MySpace back in 2005, not one of his better investment moves.
