Only O2 will delay Sony Ericsson Xperia Play launch

Cast your mind back a couple of days to Friday, when we reported on O2 delaying the launch of the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play.

The network operator has run up against some issues in testing, and is working to resolve them in conjunction with Sony Ericsson, leading to an official announcement from O2 that the phone is being delayed from April 1st by a couple of weeks.

However, it seems that none of the other networks have hit similar hitches, and they aren’t intent on pushing release back.

XperiaPlaySmartphone.co.uk reports that Sony Ericsson issued the following statement: “Sony Ericsson Xperia Play will be launching on 1st April across all UK mobile operator partners except for O2, who have decided to prolong the testing period in order to ensure that the software meets the requirements of its procedures.”

“Sony Ericsson will be working with O2 over the next couple of weeks to expedite the process and ensure that O2 customers can soon join consumers across the UK in being able to enjoy the world’s first PlayStation certified smartphone.”

Exactly why the problems are specific to O2 isn’t clear, unless it’s something to do with the white version of the gaming smartphone which is exclusive to the network.
